Needed House Rules Empty Needed House Rules

Post  Admin Tue 26 May 2009, 10:49

Here is a post for everyone to suggest if they think something needs a house rule. We can discuss the possible problems and solutions here. I will then make a decision on the house rule and type somthing up.

House Rules Coming Soon

Revised Seduction- The current White wolf system involves too many rules. I will be aiming to streamline this.

Rules on Gambling - Messing around with cards and random number generators is a pain for me. I am going to look into the odds of wining a game of blackjack, poker, roulette, slot machiene. I will post rules for this that involve rolls rather than actaully playing the game via the forum. Just to make things quicker.

Gambling

Here are a few quick thoughts on gambling rules. Yes, gambling does involve chance. Even "professional gamblers" lose their shirts at the tables now and then. That's the nature of the beast, if you play long enough, the house always wins.

Here are just a few ideas for roles pertaining to certain game types:

Poker (any type): Wits + Subterfuge (base diff 6?); Poker (unlike other casino games) is not played against the house. It is played against other players at the table. If you play against others the one with the most successes takes the pot [best used against other PCs; although NPC players may also have rolls].

For single player (fast) games roll wits + sub; the base number is 5, depending on your rolls over/under 5 will determine the percentage of wins/loses respectively.

Slots (any): This type of play is just blind luck. The machine may pay out, or it may not. There is little a player would be able to do, besides spend a lot of time (and probably a lot of money) before he wins big (provided he wins at all).

Blackjack (21): There are many variations of this game, but the basic game stays the same. I would say a basic Wits roll (diff: 7), although if a character is a gambler-type then perhaps a new skill can be purchased. Knowledge of the game of Blackjack can also give a significant advantage to the player (i.e. card counting)

Roulette: There are two types of roulette in use through various casinos. The european roulette has only one "0" on the wheel. The american roulette wheel, on the other hand, has two zeros, "0" and "00", on the wheel. The american version's odds favor the house moreso than the european version.

As above I would say that it is a basic Wits roll (unless the Gambling skill is available). Either of these forms of roulette rely on a MASSIVE amount of luck. Although smaller payouts with less risk are available. For the sake of simplicity Euro (diff: 7), US (diff: Cool. The american version is also gaining popularity in the rest of the world, thanks to the advantage it gives to the house. Oh yeah, one more thing, the euro game is, almost always, played using the french terms.

If you couldn't tell I have spent a fair amount of time (and money) at the tables. Yay Vegas!! If we need more complex gambling rules, or other games, let me know.

Here's a little taste (idea) of a new ability...i'd say skill.

Skill: Gambling

This skill applies to a player's knowledge of all forms of gambling. Blackjack, Poker, Roulette, Craps, etc. are all covered under this skill. This skill confers basic to advanced knowledge of game rules, betting techniques, and other techniques used to win more often than lose. This skill does not guarantee that you will win big, it only allows you to not get continually robbed by the casino everytime you play.

x = Novice: You've sat down at the tables now and then.

xx = Practiced: You can hold your own at the guys' "Poker Night".

xxx = Competent: You usually can usually play for hours on end on $20.

xxxx= Expert: The local casinos know your name, you usually get large amounts of "comps"

xxxxx= Master: World Series of Poker Champion! Or you may be "blacklisted" from every casino in the area. You MUST be cheating.

DISCLAIMER: Gambling is supposed to be fun! When you, or any loved ones, find themselves in bad postions due to gambling, STOP. You may even need to seek help. Addiction to gambling is not fun. : )
